Let's Draw an Animal. See if you can figure out what the animal will be before we get done. First, using a pencil, draw an oval

Step 1

Next, draw a shape like this, like a smiley line under the oval you drew

Step 2 What can this be..?

...then draw two lines like these under thatStep 3

It will be an animal, really!

Now, draw this shape and fill it in except for a little bit on the sideStep 4

Are you starting to see something?

Next, draw two ovals near the bottom of the big oval you drew, like this and put an arch-line above each oneStep 5

Any ideas yet?

And draw two shapes like this on the sides near the top of the oval- no silly, it doesn't have to be just like that, just something closeStep 6

Meet Heidi. Did you guess it was a dog? This is a drawing of my first dog Heidi

Done

DoneNotice the white areas in the eyes and the nose. These represent shine and give a little depth to your drawing. I also added fur and whiskers to 'Heidi' and made her eyebrows look furry. Look at the animals around you and see what details you can add. The more you look the more things you will notice. (but remember to always look at animals safely). Copy this drawing as much as you want.

The Importance of Practicing...

I am in love with drawing! The process of putting something that I imagine onto paper is just the best experience! I say copying is a great way to become a better artist because you learn something each time you put pencil or pen to paper! Every time you feel like drawing, draw and you will get better and learn something new every time (remember there is a time and place to draw, so pay attention in class, do your homework and listen to your parents when they're speaking to you, you know...draw when you can get lost in it!) Sometimes it will be easy and other times you might struggle to get the lines right, but Practice Makes You Confident!! Imagine I'm sending you bubbles filled with creativity and light! ~Debi
